Overview

Designers are faced with a variety of considerations when developing portable devices, including compactness, style, and battery life.
ROHM's headphone amps feature less than half the power consumption of conventional units and do not require output coupling capacitors, contributing to greater miniaturization and design flexibility. In addition, attenuated playback of low frequencies similar to systems utilizing output coupling capacitors is enabled for powerful audio reproduction.

Key Feature 1 :  Ultra-low 2mA current consumption (VDD=3.3V, no-signal stereo operation) and 0.006% distortion (VDD=3.3V, RL=16, Po=10mW)

Headphone amps usually experience a trade-off between circuit current and distortion. To solve this problem ROHM utilizes a unique circuit structure for simultaneously low distortion and circuit current: 0.006% and 2mA - roughly half the circuit current of conventional amps that don't require an output coupling capacitor.

Key Feature 2 :  Heavy bass playback via direct connection

ROHM output coupling capacitor-less headphone amps integrate a stable negative power supply charge pump circuit. In addition, signal processing is performed at reference Ground, eliminating the need for a large capacitance output coupling capacitor while allowing direct connection to headphones. This enables attenuated, powerful low-frequency playback similar to conventional systems using an output coupling capacitor.

Key Feature 3 :  Ultra-compact WL-CSP (2.1mm to 2.1mm)

ROHM headphone amps are offered in an ultra-compact 2.1mm to 2.1mm WL-CSP, reducing mounting area to only 1/5th the size of conventional circuits utilizing an 8-pin headphone amp and 2 large electrolytic capacitors. Height is reduced as well, making them ideal for sets with severe size restrictions.
